July, 2010: Congratulations to Anna F. Buckner, Carolyn L. Duncan and Leonard Wertheimer III, who were re-elected to the Alabama Law Institute for the term ending in 2016. The membership of the Alabama Law Institute is limited to 150 members of the Alabama State Bar Association who are elected for fixed terms, along with the judges of the Alabama Supreme Court, courts of appeals and circuit courts, federal judges domiciled in Alabama, full-time law faculty members of Cumberland Law School and the University of Alabama School of Law, members of the Institute Council and lawyer members of the Legislature. |

June 21, 2010: We are pleased to announce that Leonard Wertheimer III has joined our firm. Leonard is a graduate of the University of Virginia (B.A. 1969) and Emory University School of Law (J.D. 1972). Leonard's practice focuses primarily in the areas of estate planning and administration; wills, trusts and estates; tax planning for individuals and businesses; and business law. Other practice areas consist of deferred compensation planning and administration; executive compensation; limited liability entity formation and operation; corporate formation and transactions/real estate transactions; wealth preservation and asset protection. Leonard is a frequent speaker at professional seminars presenting topics relating to estate planning, estate administration, business succession planning, generation-skipping tax planning and distributions from IRAs and qualified plans. He is a former Adjunct Professor of the Masters in Tax Accounting Program at the University of Alabama School of Business as well as a former Adjunct Professor of the Birmingham Southern College School of Business. |

February 11, 2010: David S. Dunkle, a partner in our firm who practices in the areas of tax and employee benefits, will speak at the Pensions & Investments Defined Contribution Conference held at the Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort in Miami, FL on March 7-9, 2010.
Mr. Dunkle will address the Plan Sponsor Round Table for defined contribution plans that are under $1 billion in assets. Topics will include self-directed investment and brokerage accounts, the use of plan annuity options, qualified directed investment accounts, plan litigation, and Washington's proposed legislation. Sponsors of the Conference include Russell Investments, Prudential, Fidelity Investments, and Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
