Mr. Sims is a partner in the firm’s
office in Mobile, where he was born in 1949. After graduation
from law school, he served as law clerk to Hon. Frank M.
Johnson, Jr. in the Middle District of Alabama. He was a United
States Magistrate for the Southern District of Alabama from 1981
to 1986, and has continued to work with the federal court, twice
chairing the applicant Screening Committee for Magistrate Judge
positions and serving as chair of the founding board of the
southern district Federal Defender organization.
Since joining the firm in 1987 Pat’s practice has focused on
civil litigation, primarily of employment matters but more
recently in a broader array of complex claims involving
constitutional, international law, propriety rights and other
diverse matters, as well as related appeals.
Mr. Sims also has an active ADR workload as a member of the
American Arbitration Association commercial panel and a mediator
on the state and federal court panels. He is also a frequent
lecturer on continuing education programs, usually on topics of
civil procedure and employment law. He is a member of the bar of
the United States Supreme Court, the Fifth and Eleventh
Circuits, the Alabama District Courts, and the Alabama Supreme
Court. He and his wife Barbara are in the 39th year of their
marriage.
