Michael E. Turner
A native of Shelby, North Carolina, Michael Turner has practiced law in Birmingham since graduating from law school in 1996.
Michael earned the Eagle Scout award from the Boy Scouts of America in 1989.
Michael’s practice encompasses a wide variety of subject areas. A significant portion of his practice involves the defense of employers in employment-related litigation in both federal and state courts and before administrative agencies. His employment law practice includes advising clients on employment-related issues before they have reached litigation, including the drafting of written employment policies and procedures.
Michael also drafts and advises clients on non-compete agreements and related issues, and he has handled multiple lawsuits in state and federal court involving those agreements.
Michael also routinely represents national banks and mortgage loan servicers in matters throughout Alabama, including cases involving claims for ejectment, wrongful foreclosure, and other claims arising out of mortgages.
Michael’s litigation practice also includes representing clients in business-related disputes, such as breach of contract and collection cases, and defending fraud-based claims.
Finally, Michael frequently represents companies in the defense of toxic torts (including asbestos) and other personal-injury claims.
Michael has handled cases in all of Alabama’s federal courts and in state courts throughout the state, as well as appeals to Alabama’s appellate courts, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. Michael is a member of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association and the Defense Research Institute (member, Employment Law and Toxic Tort and Environmental Law Committees). He is also a member of the Birmingham and American Bar Associations.
Michael is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in: Litigation – Labor and Employment. He also was selected for inclusion on the Super Lawyers’ Alabama Rising Stars 2011 list and in 2012 Top Attorneys in Birmingham by Birmingham Magazine.
Michael and his wife and two daughters live in Mountain Brook, Alabama.
