In the article, Mr. Henry provided his perspective on trends in the local health care industry and how the political climate has impacted the firm’s health care focus.

Lance Parmer Selected as Member of the Future Leaders Forum

Cabaniss Johnston is pleased to announce that Lance W. Parmer has been selected to be a member of the 2018 class of the Birmingham Bar Association’s Future Leaders Forum.

The Forum is designed to cultivate leaders from among a group of motivated attorneys who have been in practice for three to eight years. The annual program begins in July and runs through December. Participants attend monthly sessions focused on cultivating and maximizing leadership skills and professional development in the legal profession and in the community in general.

Mr. Parmer joined Cabaniss Johnston in 2013 after earning his Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law, with honors.  During law school, he served on the Honor Court and was a member of the Cumberland Law Review.

Mr. Parmer is a member of the Alabama State Bar, the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association (ADLA), the Defense Research Institute (DRI), and the Birmingham Bar Association, where he was appointed to serve on the Medical Liaison Committee for 2018.  Mr. Parmer’s practice focuses primarily on medical malpractice, employment, and general business litigation, and he has successfully defended doctors, hospitals, and employers across the State of Alabama.

Melanie Merkle Atha to Teach Collaborative Law This Fall

Melanie Merkle Atha will be teaching collaborative law again this fall.  From September 20-22, 2018, she will be part of the faculty for the Global Collaborative Law Council’s Annual Civil Collaborative Law Conference at Cili at Bali Hai Golf Resort in Las Vegas, NV. On November 16, she will be presenting “Introduction to the Basics of Collaborative Practice” to the Mobile Bar Association at the Admiral Hotel in Mobile, AL from 1:30 pm until 4:30 pm. On December 7, 2018, at noon, she will be featured as the final speaker for the four-part webinar “Collaborative Law Practice Series” sponsored by the Alabama Center for Dispute Resolution, lecturing on informed consent and civil collaboration.

Gerald Burnett to speak on “LLCs From Start to Finish”

Gerald Burnett will be speaking on two current topics of interest at the continuing legal education program for lawyers to be held on November 7, 2018, entitled “LLCs From Start to Finish.” The two topics of Gerald’s presentation will be (i) How to Draft the LLC Operating Agreement and (ii) LLCs or S Corporations: Tax Considerations.

In Memorium: David S. Dunkle (1945-2018)

David S. Dunkle It is with great sorrow that Cabaniss Johnston announces the passing of our dear friend and partner David “Dave” S. Dunkle on April 17, 2018. Dave was recognized as one of Alabama’s preeminent ERISA attorneys and he received numerous accolades throughout his career, including listings in Best Lawyers and Super Lawyers. He also wrote the authoritative reference Guide to Pension and Profit Sharing Plans published by McGraw-Hill. In his free time, Dave coached youth baseball and was an avid golfer, alpine skier, and pool player. Dave will be greatly missed, as a friend, colleague, and unabashed patriot.
